The Architect in the House Scheme

Get the Best Advice Before the Big Spend

How It Works

The Architect in the House scheme, devised by the charity Shelter and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), offered expert home improvement advice in exchange for a donation to Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity. While Shelter and RIBA have stepped back from the administrative burden, OWLarchitecture continues to provide this valuable service.

To participate, please follow these steps:

  1. Donation: Make a £180 donation to Shelter.
  2. Email Receipt: Email a screenshot of your donation receipt to Grahame White at owl.architecture@outlook.com, along with your name, dwelling address, and a description of what you hope to achieve with your project.
  3. Appointment: Once your donation is confirmed, Grahame will schedule an appointment with you, potentially any day of the week.

Note: Maximum travel time is 30 minutes from North Leeds, West Yorkshire.

What You Can Expect

Participants often receive:

  • Blueprint Sketches: A sketch that serves as the blueprint for future house expansion or reorganisation.
  • Technical Advice: Expert advice on treating dampness and other technical issues.
  • Planning Guidance: Specific town and country planning advice, especially regarding permitted developments.

Year-Round Service: OWLarchiyevyure offers the Architect in the House scheme non-stop throughout the year.

Tailored Advice

Many residential clients use this scheme to seek advice on how to proceed with their projects. Sometimes, the best advice might be not to proceed with the project but to find another property, or it may be that you do not need an architect but a specialist such as a structural engineer or a loft conversion company to carry your project forward.

Our Commitment: We only offer our services where we are confident in securing the best value for you.
